Fox Cities Lawn Care
Lawn Mowing FAQ
Real answers to the questions Fox Cities homeowners ask most — no fluff, no fine print.
Service Basics
What months do you provide lawn mowing services in the Fox Cities
True North Lawn & Snow provides lawn mowing from mid-to-late April through the end of October. Our exact spring start date follows the grass — in the Fox Cities, that typically means we’re rolling between April 15 and May 1, depending on weather and growth. We wrap up the season at the end of October as the grass goes dormant, and transition into fall cleanup services through November.

What cities do you serve for lawn mowing?
We serve residential homeowners throughout the Fox Cities, including Appleton, Neenah, Menasha, Grand Chute, Greenville, Harrison, and surrounding communities in the Fox Valley. If you’re unsure whether we cover your neighborhood, give us a call or fill out our quote form — we’re happy to confirm.
Do you mow commercial properties?
We are laser-focused on residential properties. About 90% of our customers are homeowners, and that focus is by design — it’s what allows us to deliver consistent, high-quality service to every yard, every visit. Occasionally we’ll service a very small commercial property (like a dental or medical office with a yard roughly comparable to a residential lawn), but residential service is our entire model. Most lawn care companies try to do everything. We don’t.
Beyond lawn mowing, what other services does True North offer?
Lawn mowing is our bread and butter, but we’re a full residential property maintenance company. Here’s everything we offer:
- Lawn Mowing — Weekly or bi-weekly, all season long with a consistent crew and set schedule.
- Snow Removal — Residential driveway, sidewalk, and walkway clearing all winter. See our Snow Removal page for details.
- Mulch Installation — Fresh mulch for beds, borders, and landscaping areas. We handle delivery and installation.
- Hedge & Bush Trimming — Clean, professional trimming to keep your shrubs shaped and your property looking sharp.
- Spring Cleanup — Post-winter debris removal, bed cleanup, and getting your property ready for the growing season. Learn why spring cleanup matters →
- Fall Cleanup — Leaf removal, plant cutback, and bed clearing before winter sets in.
- General Property Cleanups — Year-round cleanup services for any situation — post-storm, moving in or out, overgrown properties, or anything in between. Call for an estimate.
All services are residential only and focused on the Fox Cities. If you’re not sure whether we can help with your specific project, just reach out — we’re happy to take a look.

Scheduling & Reliability
How often will you mow my lawn?
What happens if it rains on my scheduled mow day?
We plan for it. We deliberately leave Wednesdays and Saturdays open as buffer days. If your scheduled day gets rained out, we push the route back by one day — not five. Your lawn won’t sit uncut for a week because of weather. We’ve built weather delays into our scheduling from day one.
Will I always get the same crew at my house?
What if I need to skip a week or pause service temporarily?
Is there a minimum number of mows required per season?
No minimum. We bill monthly, and your first invoice is pro-rated if you start mid-month. If you want to switch from another provider in July, that’s completely fine. We make it easy to start anytime.

No Mow May & Slow Mow Summer
Do you participate in or accommodate "No Mow May"?
What is "Slow Mow Summer," and how does True North handle it in Appleton?
“Slow Mow Summer” refers to the natural slowdown in cool-season grass growth during July and August when heat and dry conditions stress the turf. We don’t change our visit schedule during this period — we maintain consistent service all season. What we do adjust is mowing height: as heat stress increases, we raise our cut toward 3.5 inches to protect the lawn. The good news is that the Fox Cities climate — with its cooler evenings and regular rainfall — means dramatic slowdowns are far less common here than in hotter regions.

What if my grass barely grows during summer heat — will you still charge me?
Lawn Health & Quality
What height do you mow at?
We mow between 3 and 3.5 inches — the optimal range for cool-season turf health in Wisconsin. Early and late in the season, we may drop slightly lower for startup cleanup or final debris pass. During peak summer heat we raise toward 3.5 inches to reduce stress on the grass. Taller grass in summer sounds counterintuitive, but it’s the right call for long-term lawn health.

Do you bag clippings or mulch them back into the lawn?
We mulch clippings back into the lawn — it’s the healthiest approach, full stop. Mulched clippings decompose quickly, return nitrogen to the soil naturally, and act as a light moisture barrier. It reduces your fertilization needs and strengthens your turf over time. We don’t bag unless a specific situation calls for it.
What do you do if you notice a problem in my lawn — disease, grubs, or bare spots?
Do you offer fertilization or weed control?
We do not. True North is laser-focused on lawn mowing, snow removal, mulch installation, shrub trimming, and property cleanups. Fertilization and weed treatment are their own science — companies like Weed Man and TruGreen focus exclusively on that, and they do it well. Our job is to be the best at what we do. We stay in our lane so we can deliver exceptional results in it.

What payment methods do you accept?
Is there a discount for autopay or prepaying for the year?
No discount for monthly autopay, though it’s a convenient “set it and forget it” option. However, if you prepay for the full season upfront, we offer 5% off the total. A nice perk for customers who want to lock in their rate and save a bit at the same time.
Do you require a contract?
No contract. You receive a written estimate so your price is crystal clear — but there’s no binding agreement, no cancellation fees, and no setup fees. If you ever need to cancel, just let us know and we’ll pro-rate your final month down to the week. You pay only for what was delivered. Nothing hidden, nothing in the fine print.
